THE CANONS OF DORT: THE DECISION OF THE SYNOD
1619, Festus Hommius (1576-1642), paper, Dordrecht Regional Archives collection
The contents of this book had major consequences. After the Remonstrants were expelled from the meeting, they had to await their fate in Dordrecht. The Canons of Dort (named after the shortened or anglicized form of Dordrecht) were recited in the Grote Kerkon 6 May. Five points made clear why the Remonstrant beliefs were no longer part of the Calvinist faith. Within the current Protestant church, these Canons are still one of the Three Forms of Unity, in addition to the Heidelberg Catechism (1563) and the Confession of Faith (1561).
