THE NATIONAL SYNOD OF DORDRECHT
1621, Pouwels Weyts de Jonge (?-1629), oil on canvas, Dordrechts Museum collection
The Synod of Dordrecht (or Dort) lasted from 13 November 1618 to 6 May 1619. This great international church meeting was in response to a conflict among the Calvinists about predestination. For months, all eyes were on Dordrecht. Here you can see the situation in January 1619. At the table in the middle are the Remonstrants, who were sent away two months into the meeting.
