Fragments of Catholic churches
These Catholic figures possibly come from the Great Church and the Mendicants’ Church in Dordrecht. However, they were not cut loose during the Dutch iconoclasm. In 1566 and 1572, the moderate city council prevented its citizens from destroying too many statues, figures and other objects. The Protestant Reformed took over the Catholic church buildings, but the Catholics were given the time to remove precious objects. In the end, the largest part of the Catholic heritage is also lost forever in Dordrecht. However, this chalice is preserved.
